πΊπ¬ π»π¦ Blessed Daudi Okelo
Martyr ( ✝️ 1918 Anno Domini A.D.) Feast: 18 September
Saints Who Faced Persecution
Daudi was born in Uganda. His parents were pagans, but they allowed him to be educated by a Catholic missionary priest in their village π¨πΏπ π¨π« ⛪ . Daudi requested baptism when he was fourteen years old, and soon afterward he asked to become a catechist. Several months later, the lead catechist in the area died, and teenaged Daudi requested to take his place. The missionary priest explained to him that he would have to travel long distances π πΆπΏ♂️ , deal with tribal infighting πͺπΏ , and be aware of dangers from bandits and slave traders π΄☠️ . Daudi merely responded, "I am not afraid to die. Jesus, too, died for us!"

However, British π¬π§ rule of Uganda caused intermittent tensions. Local troublemakers, including raiders, witch-doctors π§πΏ♂️ π§πΏ♀️ , and Muslims ☪️ , capitalized on these tensions to blame Christians. One morning, five of them entered Daudi 's village and demanded that he give up teaching the catechism. When he refused, they pulled him to the ground and killed him with spears.
