Gandolph was born around the turn of the 12th Century A.D. He joined the Franciscans while Saint Francis was still alive, & prospered in his observance of the Franciscan way of life. But in order to avoid the attention his holiness was attracting, he & a companion set off the seek greater solitude ๐Ÿคซ

According to a popular story, Gandolph ’s companion was taken ill ๐Ÿค’ on the journey, & became unable to speak ๐Ÿค In danger of death, he was unable to confess until Gandolph’s prayer restored his speech. The friend, who had omitted to confess certain serious sins, was greatly relieved to cleanse his soul & died in peace ๐Ÿ•Š️ Gandolph settled near the town of Polizzi , where his preaching & teaching proved very effective ๐Ÿ—ฃ️๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿซ

In Holy Week of 1260 A.D., Gandolph preached his last homily. He told the people he would not preach again, & soon after was taken ill. “Ave … Ave,” he prayed between his dying breaths. For 2 weeks after he died, a beautiful fragrance spread from his body. He was buried near his hermitage ๐Ÿชฆ ⛪ & many miracles took place around his tomb. After 60 years, he was disinterred & found incorrupt. His cult was confirmed by Pope Leo XIII.

While the Franciscans commemorate Gandolph on 3 April, Polizzi venerates its patron in September, with 3 days of processions, festivals, & concerts ๐Ÿฅ
