Saint Francis of Paola
Religious ( 1507 Anno Domini A.D.) Feast: 2 April
Saints Who Performed Great Miracles
"Put aside hatred & hostility. See to it that you refrain from harsh words." Born in Calabria in 1416 A.D. Francis was the son of humble farmers
He was a miracle child for his parents, who promised Saint Francis to dedicate any son to his service.
At age 13, Francis was taken to spend a year with the Franciscan friars It is said that Francis bilocated, simultaneously serving at Mass
& assisting in the kitchen
He returned home & took up a hermit's life, eventually forming an order he called the Minims, wishing it to be the least of the orders. Exceptionally austere, they took an additional vow to observe a perpetual Lenten fast
hoping thus to inspire more fasting in others

However, Francis was not permitted to remain hidden as he had hoped. He became known as one of the greatest miracle workers of his time, raising the dead & walking on water, among other things. Once Francis' pet lamb was caught & roasted by some hungry men
He did not grow angry, but asked where the bones & fleece were
When he learned they were in the fire
, he called to the lamb: " Martinello , come out." And out jumped the lamb, whole again.
