Saints Who Teach about the Four Last Things
Vincent Ferrer, the "Angel of the Apocalypse,"was born in Spain in 1350 A.D. His parents were devout & one of his brothers would become superior general of the Carthusians. Vincent joined the Dominicans at 18. He memorized much of Scripture, studied philosophy & patristics (study of Church Fathers)…

Vincent became an excellent preacher At his time, there were 2 rival claimants to the papacy, one in Rome
& one in Avignon
Vincent, close to the Avignon claimant, Benedict XIII, begged him to go to Rome & work out an end to the schism. Benedict admired Vincent, but did not accede to his request. Vincent, deeply grieved at the wound in the Church, became terribly ill
& was near death.
Then Jesus appeared to him in glory
& told him to go & convert sinners, "for my judgment is nigh." For the next 20 years, Vincent preached all through Europe
& worked more miracles than could be counted: raising the dead, healing the sick
& feeding thousands with only a little bread & fish
He was also given a gift of tongues
- though he spoke only in Spanish he was understood in all languages. Miracles of conversion were most abundant of all.
Penitents followed Vincent by the thousands, & "convents orphanages, hospitals
arose in his path." Vincent died in 1419 A.D.
Merciful Jesus
through the prayers of Saint Vincent Ferrer , grant to your children a mighty spirit of repentance to prepare for your final coming
