Notburga was peasant born in Tyrol , an Alpine province of Austria . While working as a maid in the kitchen of Count Henry she often gave table scraps to the poor who came to the door When Count Henry's mother died, his wife Ottilia established a new policy: all scraps were to go to the pigs

Notburga complied at first, but after a time, she found she could no longer turn away those in need. When the mistress discovered Notburga's clandestine charity, she fired her. Notburga soon found work with a farmer in Eben Here, again, she clashed with her employer. She was bringing in the harvest one Saturday when the bell for Vespers rang signalling the beginning of the Sunday rest Notburga hung up her sickle ☭ ...

But the farmer insisted that Notburga bring in the rest of the wheat, lest the rain should spoil the harvest. But Notburga was undaunted. "Let this decide," she said & tossed her sickle in the air ☭ where it remained miraculously suspended, looking just like the new moon, harbinger of good weather The farmer gave in. Eventually, Count Henry's wife died & he invited Notburga back to manage his household.

In her final years, Notburga gave freely to the poor. Notburga died in 1313 A.D. & was buried at the chapel of Saint Rupert in Eben . Maids & peasant farmers seeking her intercession made the chapel a popular pilgrimage site
