Born to a prominent Genoese family, Catherine was married at 15 to Giuliano Adorno , a man with a gambling problem 
For 10 years, she sought to distract herself from her troubled marriage thru worldly occupations. Yet a great sadness grew in her & she was tempted to despair

One day Catherine went to confess her sins, & as she knelt before the priest, she received a great grace 
"a wound in my heart 
🩹 of the immense love of God." She left at once, & shut herself up at home: "no longer the world, no longer sin," she professed. From this time, she began to live a life of profound prayer 
& penance-for many years God was her sole guide. Her attachment to Christ 
opened her heart to charity

Catherine began to work at the hospital of Pammatone , where she eventually became director 
After his wife's conversion of heart 
Giuliano became a Franciscan tertiary 
. He & Catherine gave themselves to the care of the poor. Catherine's magnetic 
personality drew many others to the work. She shared her mystical insights in the "Treatise on Purgatory" & "Dialogue between Body & the Soul"

During the last 15 years of her life, Catherine suffered from various serious health problems
