John was a lawyer ⚖️ who had been born in Capistrano, Italy, and rose to become the governor of Perugia. At the age of thirty, while on a peace embassy ✌️ to the House of Malatesta, he was unexpectedly thrown into prison ⛓️ . In the cold cell ðĨķ , John made a vow to enter the Franciscan Order - although he had recently married ðĪĩ♂️ ð ð°♀️ . He was released both from the prison and form his marriage vows (by an understanding wife) before taking the Franciscan habit in 1416.

John became a disciple of Saint Bernardine of Siena and followed in his footsteps as a preacher ðĢ️ . For thirty years, John traveled throughout Italy ⛪ ðķ♂️ ⛪ giving wildly successful missions. At one place, more than two thousand sick persons were brought to him for healing: he marked each with the sign of the cross ðĪ ðĻ⚕️ ⚕️ ðĨ.
