🇮🇪 🇻🇦 Saint Ciaran of Clonmacnoise ☘️ Feast: 9 September

🇮🇪 🇻🇦 Saint Ciaran of Clonmacnoise
Abbot ( ✝️ c. 550 Anno Domini A.D.) Feast: 9 September
Saints Who Were Close to Nature

Unlike many early Irish saints, Ciaran (or Kieran) came from humble stock; his father was a carpenter 🪚 . When Ciaran arrived at the monastery ⛪ of Saint Finnian of Clonard for his studies, he brought a dun cow 🐄 🥛 with him to provide for his daily sustenance. The cow, it is said, gave so much milk that she provided for the other students as well.

From Clonard, Ciaran went to study with Saint Enda 👨‍🎓 📚 👨‍🏫 on the island of Arranmore. Pointing out a fruiting tree by the river 🍎 🌳 , Enda prophesied a great future for Ciaran: "That fruitful tree is you yourself, for you shall be great before God and man, and shall produce sweetest fruits of good works, and shall be honored throughout all Ireland." ☘️ #catholic https://www.johnsanidopoulos.com/2019/09/saint-kieran-of-clonmacnoise-549.html https://www.visitgalway.ie/explore/religious-and-spiritual/religious-ruins/church-of-st-enda/

After his priestly ordination, Ciaran went to Scattery Island to learn from Saint Senan and then headed with eight companions to Clonmacnoise, in Country Offaly in the center of Ireland, where he laid the foundation for his own monastery 👷‍♂️  ⚒️ . After less than a year as abbot, Ciaran died of the plague 🤒 🦠 , in his early thirties. Clonmacnoise became one of Ireland's greatest centers of learning 🏫 📝. Despite numerous attacks by the Vikings and the Normans, it endured for nearly a thousand years.

🙏 Loving Father, through the intercession of Saint Ciaran of Clonmacnoise, may all my works bring forth good fruit 🛐
