. In 1907, the year following his ordination, Preca founded what would become the Society for Christian Doctrine to form lay people as catechists. Their motto: "Magister, Utinam Sequatur Evandelium Universus Mundus," "Divine teacher, may the whole world follow the Gospel!"

Preca 's work drew the suspicion of some. For a time, the diocese closed the burgeoning catechetical centers &the newspapers lambasted George &his young followers. While praying 
about it before an image of the Blessed Mother, George heard a voice saying, "Serva silentium"-observe silence 
. He urged his followers to take a promise of meekness, to offer forgiveness promptly & willingly & to "love the contempt" they were suffering for Christ

Eventually, the Society was permitted to resume its work. Since George 's death in 1962 A.D. it has continued to spread, & is now found worldwide 
, with over 20,000 young people receiving regular catechesis 
Heavenly Father, through the intercession of Saint George Preca , infuse my soul with the spirit of Christ , the meek & humble lamb, who was willingly led to the slaughter
