With Saint Wolfgang 's guidance Gisela grew up very devout, & was on the path to becoming a nun ⛪ However, she was asked to marry Stephen , the future king of Hungary 🀴 & accepted πŸ’’ Their marriage was affectionate & they shared a desire to Christianize their people. Stephen, who became a saint himself, labored to make Hungary into a unified Catholic country.

For 40 years Gisela worked alongside her husband, often accompanying him on his difficult journeys. Together they helped establish many churches & monasteries ⛪ They also attended carefully to their son, the heir apparent. Emeric , also honored as a saint, was mortally injured in a board hunt 🐷 while quite young, before he could take the throne. Stephen died in A.D. 1038.

Stephen 's successor was unfriendly to Gisela & confiscated all her property. The meek Gisela retired to a Benedictine convent ⛪ where she later became abbess. She died around 1065 A.D. & her tomb became a place of pilgrimage. She was officially beatified in 1975 A.D.
