🇹🇳 🇮🇹 🇻🇦 Saint Numidicus Feast: 9 August

🇹🇳 🇮🇹 🇻🇦 Saint Numidicus
Priest (✝️ 252 Anno Domini A.D.) Feast: 9 August
Saints Who Heard a Call Late in Life

Soon after becoming the Roman emperor in 249, Decius signed an edict ordering all inhabitants of the Empire to make public sacrifice to the gods 👿 When the order of persecution reached Carthage in North Africa , some Christians apostatized by making the prescribed sacrifices.

Others refused to pay homage to the pagan deities &went courageously to their deaths, cleaving to Christ :jesus: to the end. Among them was Numidicus , who with his wife and several others, was condemned to death by fire 🔥The Christians were roasted over a pyre & after the fire burned low, Numidicus's daughter came to recover the bodies of her parents. She found her mother's corpse, but was amazed to discover her father still alive among the ashes. She brought him home &he slowly recovered 🤕

When the ♗ bishop Saint Cyprian learned of Numidicus's escape, he ordained him a priest. In a letter 📜 to the people & clergy of Carthage , Cyprian told the story of Numidicus's rescue, & recommended him as "a man illustrious by the brightest light of confession, exalted in the honor both of virtue & of faith." Numidicus is believed to have died not long afterward, in the year 252 A.D. He shares his feast with his wife & the others who had perished in the flames 🔥
