When Maria confessed to her father that she felt a boundless desire to love 
he counseled her toward prayer 
At the age of 17, Maria heard the preaching of Gaspar del Bufalo 
who had founded the Missionaries of the Precious Blood 6 years earlier 
This man whose missions were described as a "spiritual earthquake" burst into Maria's world. After she saw how hearts were profoundly changed by the missions....

even the brigands who had been marauding the countryside began a new life after meeting Gaspar & his brother priests - Maria wanted to participate in this work in some way. She felt a great desire to share the message of God's mercy "so that not one drop of the Divine Blood would be lost." Gaspar assigned one of his priests, Giovanni Merlini , to help Maria found the Institute of Adorers of the Blood of Christ

Maria 's fervor poured out in catechesis 
which drew not only women & children but also men, who were left to secretly eavesdrop on her lessons because of the societal norms that separated the instruction of men & women. By the time of her death, Maria's Adorers were in 70 mostly small rural communities throughout Italy
