30 year anniversary of TMI

Opponents on the left and right face off on the viability of nuclear energy and come to the same conclusion that it's not economically viable:

"Nuclear energy is to the right what solar energy is to the left: Religious devotion in practice, a wonderful technology in theory, but an economic white elephant in fact."

UPDATE

Somewhat in counterpoint to the above quote, the latest numbers shows that the government subsidizes solar power ($24.34 per megawatt-hour (MWh)) by over an order of magnitude more than nuclear energy ($1.59 per megawatt-hour (MWh)).

  1. My Dad worked at TMI during and after the accident. Now 79, he still does not glow. I am still waiting for the three eyed fish and cows with two heads though.

  2. I went to elementary school within a 15 miles radius at the time. School closed early & we were sent home. I'm not certain what the rationale was for such a decision.
