I oppose the proposed Red Flag gun control laws.

Here's the text of the letter I sent to my Rob Portman stating my opposition to proposed Red Flag laws in case anyone wants to crib notes

I oppose the proposed Red Flag gun control laws.

I’m a Republican who lives in your district, [ ] . I’m concerned that the proposed so called Red Flag laws or “safety protection orders” will be exploited to deprive law abiding citizens of their freedoms that are codified in the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution. Democrats, both in public office and in the media, frequently smear their political opponents as either evil or insane. A politically motivated judiciary may allow their personal or political prejudices to sway their decision to deprive citizens of their right to protect themselves. Once a protection order has been implemented, the burden of proof is inverted from English Common Law standards.  The accused must prove his innocence in order to have his rights restored.

I believe that the 2nd Amendment is the bedrock that helps protect the entire Bill of Rights. I disagree with the Machiavellian mantra of "Never Let A Good Crisis Go To Waste." Manipulating the emotional response after a tragedy to expand the powers of government and curtail individual liberty is poor public policy.

Respectfully,

[ Your Name ]

@BrianRoss and @ABC News vs Tea Party

Glenn Beck on his radio show yesterday applied the same standard of ABC's  "investigative reporting" of the Colorado shooting to Brian Ross. Beck conducted an internet search with Ross' name and various nefarious deeds and discovered: "ABC’s Brian Ross arrested for murder, sexual related charges"

Glenn said, “I’m talking to the Brian Ross at ABC News. What you should do, Brian, is not worry about being first. Not worry about your political agenda. What you should do is be accurate. That’s something that they used to teach in journalism schools.”
“Everybody makes a mistake. But I believe, I believe we would fire somebody who would do what you just did,” he said.

Admittedly, ABC eventually publicly apologized for their journalistic malfeasance, but has yet to personally apologize to the individual they smeared.

“What kind of idiot makes that kind of statement?” Holmes told TheDC. “Really, seriously, how do we take a journalist seriously when it’s pretty clear they really haven’t done any sort of check on their facts?”

The libertarian Reason folks perhaps understandably had their sarcasm detectors turned off:

The conservative muckraking site Breitbart.com, after criticizing Ross and interviewing the man he recklessly accused on live television of being the possible trigger man on a grisly mass murder, ran with a story that Holmes "could be a registered Democrat." Or not; the site later concluded that "the suspect may, in fact, not have been registered to vote."

It's obvious  that Brietbart was hopelessly trying to install a sense of empathy into the DNC media. How would Democrats appreciate it if their political party was prejudged and smeared by opponents after every act of violence? The implied rhetorical question obviously didn't register with Matt Welch at Reason, who  continued with a calling down a pox on all  houses:

Politicizing tragedy with thinly sourced and even baseless speculation appears to be a permanent feature of our media age.

However, the perpetrators of the above biased reporting are almost exclusively from the DNC media, whose mantras are "the personal is political" and  "never let a crisis go to waste". When the facts are eventually discovered, acts of violence typically have been conducted by either  Obama supporters, such as the Occupy Wall Streeters planned bombing of Ohio bridges, or the prof who was denied tenure and went on a shooting spree:
A family source said Bishop, a mother of four children - the youngest a third-grade boy - was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama to the point of being off-putting.

or else the perpetrators are completely crazy, as in the Giffords' case. However, the DNC media have neither an understanding of ethics as purported professional journalists, nor an understanding of empathy as personal human beings to cease and desist their preemptive prejudicial smear campaigns, especially if they serve to further their greater ideological agenda, such as gun control:

The most deadly guns are whichever ones crazy bastards point at innocent people.
