Swithbert was driven out of the Netherlands by their fierce leader Radbod ⚔️ With great courage, Swithbert planned a second mission trip. This time, he successfully led a team of monks up the Rhine to Utrecht , and they moved many hearts with their preaching ๐ฃ️ ![:heart_on_fire: ❤️๐ฅ](https://truthsocial.com/packs/emoji/2764-fe0f-200d-1f525.svg)
After a time, he was nominated by his companions to go to Saint Wilfrid , who was then in Mercia , to be consecrated as a bishop ♗ He then set off the evangelize the Bructeri tribes living in what today is northwestern Germany
Saint Bede tells us that he "brought many of them into the way of truth" until he was driven out by Saxons. Swithbert fled into Frankish territory, where King Pepin ๐ granted him an island ๐️ in the Rhine River at Kaiserwerth , near Dรผsseldorf . Swithbert founded a monastery there & died not long afterward. Swithbert's relics were rediscovered in 1626 A.D. & may be venerated today in Kaiserwerth. He is the patron of those suffering from angina
