Saints Who Were Champions of the Poor
Luigi was born to a large family near Lake Como in Italy in 1842 He entered the seminary at 18 & was ordained in 1866. At his parish in Savogno , his initiatives for the poor met stiff resistance, & his name was put on a blacklist by the anti-clerical government.

Forced out of his parish Luigi went to Turin & joined Saint John Bosco in his work educating poor boys 3 years later, Luigi 's bishop ♗ recalled him, & he was again assigned to a parish. But after he founded a school for the poor the Masons opposed him, & he was transferred to a tiny, remote village in the mountains Luigi soon found his bearings again & helped run a nearby orphanage & hospice

In 1886 A.D. the entire operation was moved to Lake Como , where it became "The Little House of Divine Providence," entirely dedicated to receiving the rejected, the disabled & the sick To serve them, Luigi founded the Daughters of Divine Providence & the Servants of Charity. Speaking to Luigi's spiritual sons & daughters in 2015, Pope Francis told them, "Saint Luigi so believed in this concrete & provident love of the Father that ....
