๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ฆ Saint Luigi Guanella Feast: 24 October

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ฆ Saint Luigi Guanella
Founder (✝️ 1915 Anno Domini A.D.)         Feast: 24 October

Saints Who Were Champions of the Poor

Luigi was born to a large family near Lake Como in Italy in 1842 ๐Ÿž️ He entered the seminary ⛪ at 18 & was ordained in 1866. At his parish in Savogno , his initiatives for the poor met stiff resistance, & his name was put on a blacklist by the anti-clerical government.

Forced out of his parish ๐Ÿค• ๐Ÿ’ช ⛪ Luigi went to Turin & joined Saint John Bosco in his work educating poor boys ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿซ 3 years later, Luigi 's bishop ♗ recalled him, & he was again assigned to a parish. But after he founded a school for the poor ๐Ÿซ the Masons ⚒️ opposed him, & he was transferred to a tiny, remote village in the mountains ๐Ÿ”️ Luigi soon found his bearings again & helped run a nearby orphanage & hospice ๐Ÿฅ

In 1886 A.D. the entire operation was moved to Lake Como , where it became "The Little House of Divine Providence," entirely dedicated to receiving the rejected, the disabled ♿ & the sick ๐Ÿค’ To serve them, Luigi founded the Daughters of Divine Providence & the Servants of Charity. Speaking to Luigi's spiritual sons & daughters in 2015, Pope Francis told them, "Saint Luigi so believed in this concrete & provident love ๐Ÿ’— of the Father that ....

Luigi often had the courage to surpass the limits of human prudence to put the Gospel into practice. Providence for him was not 'poetry' but reality. God takes care of us & wants us to trust him." :jesus:

๐Ÿ™ Loving Father, through the intercession of Saint Luigi Guanella , let me live not in a realm of ideals, but rather in the place you have placed me, alive to the real needs of my friends and companions ๐Ÿ›
