During this time, it is said, Lambert obeyed the abbot as carefully as any novice would. When Pepin of Herstal (great-grandfather of Charlemagne ) came to power, he recalled Bishop Lambert, who returned to his duties with zeal, including going personally to convert the pagans who remained in his diocese. Then Pepin began an affair & Lambert came to the court "like another John the Baptist."
