From a young age, Andrew pushed hard against his mother's piety. In one of his books, he wrote 
"This book belongs to Andrew Hubert Fournet, a good boy, though he is not going to become a monk or a priest."

Andrew's mediocre university career, foiled by a lax & frivolous lifestyle, led his parents to send him to live w/his uncle, a priest. In the presence of this man, Andrew underwent a dramatic conversion. 2 years later he was ordained a priest & soon became known for his austere life & his direct, compelling sermons 
He was saying Mass 
in a barn, hiding from the French authorities, who were trying to force him to sign an oath of allegiance 
when he met Elizabeth

A young woman of intelligence & drive-she had already successfully defended her family in a court case 
Elizabeth was tending the many who were suffering spiritual & physical devastation in the wake of the Revolution. In 1807, she & Andrew founded the Sisters of the Cross, a congregation devoted to caring for the poor & the sick 
After Andrew's death, Elizabeth drew another saintly priest, Michael Garicoits , to direct the sisters

Elizabeth encouraged Michael to found the Priests of the Sacred Heart 
of Betherram for the preaching of missions. When Elizabeth died in 1838, there were over 60 convents 
of her order throughout France
