In this age of smart phones and tablets and different devices that many kids get themselves on and start playing with, there's a tried and true toy that I think is still in every bedroom of any child in America and that's a teddy bear. A teddy bear. What child doesn't have a teddy bear of some kind on their bed? And an interesting thing about teddy bears is that sometimes even teddy bears can talk. Even sometimes teddy bears can talk and they sing all kinds of different songs but even on a deeper level, sometimes the teddy bear talks through the person who picks them up. "Hello I’m Mrs. Bear" and how many times do kids do that they go back and forth with their teddy bear and their dolls and they give those bears life. Because when that bear isn't being held by its owner by the child, it has no life, right? It's just sitting there, just waiting. I know there's even a movie made some years back. The kids go off to school and the toys all of a sudden start running around and playing and doing these type of things but without someone who's holding that bear, without someone who's giving it life, it just stopped it has no power. It has no life within it. I think of that example in a way of the power that Jesus gives us through the Holy Spirit. Because he says in a few days you'll be baptized with the Holy Spirit. And then he says, wait here until you're clothed on high from power from the Holy Spirit. And what did the apostles and the blessed Mother Mary do after the Ascension is that they were waiting for the power of the Holy Spirit. To allow the power of the Holy Spirit to be that power that activates them, that gives them life. To be possessed by the Holy Spirit. Those bears, when not being held by the child are just waiting. And isn't it that same thing with us in our lives? Until we've been possessed by Jesus Christ, taken over by the power of the Holy Spirit, we're like that bear where we're just waiting. In a sense we're alive but we're not alive. And so Jesus has ascended to the right hand of the father and we ask Jesus to prepare our hearts. To receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit that gives us true power. The holy power that animates us. The Holy Spirit that sets us on fire from inaction to action. Praise God for this day of the Ascension that we have our Lord that is always with us, that always looks over us. That always guards and guides us and pours out the Holy Spirit upon us.
