A native of Fussen , in Bavaria , Germany , Francis was a sickly child. His mother, fearing that he would die, prepared him by telling him stories of the saints. But he made it through school, & after university he joined the Redemptorists to serve the German immigrants of the United States

After Francis was ordained in Baltimore , he spent 9 years in Pittsburgh = the 1st six of those under future Saint John Neumann . Francis' kindness & his simple preaching won many hearts for Christ 
Soon, people were coming to him from all over for confession & spiritual direction; some reported miraculous cures when he prayed with them. Children especially loved him.

in 1866. When yellow fever hit 
he tended the victims & offered the sacraments. He succumbed to the disease himself on October 4, 1867. Even in death, he wore his characteristic gentle smile.http://seelosinfuessen.de/seelos-news-archive-12
