Saints Who Have Appeared to People
"Saint Michael's Sword" refers to a straight line that runs through Europe 🇪🇺 , from Ireland 🇮🇪 to Israel 🇮🇱 , formed by seven monasteries ⛪ , built at different times 👷♂️ 🏗️ , six of which are dedicated to Saint Michael or at least contain a shrine to him. (The seventh is Stella Maris Monastery on Mounty Carmel.) Lined up with the sunset 🌄 on the summer solstice of the northern hemisphere 🧭 , the monasteries are built on former pagan worship sites.

This list includes Monte Sant' Angelo, where Padre Pio used to send penitents, and where a small cross ✝️ carved into a rock 🪨 by Saint Francis of Assisi can be found. This shrine dates back to around 500; the local bishop ♗ had been praying and fasting with his people when Saint Michael appeared and instructed him to build a chapel in a grotto ⚒️ .

It is said that as a local procession first headed to the place, eagles 🦅 hovered overhead to shield the people from the heat 🥵 🌞 . When they arrived at the cave, they found an altar already prepared. Nearby, the footprint 👣 of Michael had appeared in the rock. For this reason, the basilica there is known as the Celestial Basilica, the only church not dedicated by human hands. The event is commemorated by a special feast on May 8.
