Hey @HuffingtonPost & @DailyKos There Were ZERO Benghazis during Bush term

There's a liberal meme started by Daily Kos and regurgitated by Huffington Post going around asserting that Bush suffered 13 Benghazis during his term:

As I posted over on This Ain't Hell, conservatives and vets are angry not just because of the crime of leaving US personnel unprotected overseas to be murdered on September 11, 2012 but also about the lies and the cover up:

1) It’s a total lie and I hate being lied to
2) It rationalizes Al Qaeda’s murder of a US ambassador, ie Americans deserve to be killed if we allow uppitty dhimmis to post blasphemous videos
3) It rationalizes Obama’s UN speech where he promotes anti-free speech anti-blasphemy laws


4) It excuses Clinton et al for not having foresight to protect US embassies on SEPT 11 duh! a date that’s not a coincidence for murdering terrorists

Back to Fisking Huff Po's pooh-infested progressive propaganda. First of all, the murder and possible abuse of Ambassador Stevens corpse was the first murder of a US Ambassador since Jimmy Carter's hapless administration. Debunking the rest of Huff Po's talking points:

1) January 22, 2002 Calcutta 5 killed.

No US personnel were killed.

Heavily-armed gunmen have attacked the US Government's information centre near the American consulate in Calcutta, killing five policemen.

It's tragic any of our allies were killed, but Bush admin did it's job protecting their people. Additionally, Bush didn't attack US 1st Amendment and free speech and some schmo who posted a youtube video to rationalist crazy jihadi murder spree.

2. June 14, 2002 Karachi 12 killed

Again, no US citizen was murdered and Bush didn't engage in victim blaming.

With this attack Bush blamed terrorists, not a Coptic Christian US citizen exercising his free speech rights:

"We fight an enemy that are radical killers. That's what they are," President Bush said during a visit to his home state of Texas. "They claim they're religious people and they blow up Muslims. They have no regard for individual life."

3. October 12, 2002. Denpasar, Indonesia 0 killed

4. February 28, 2003 Islamabad 2 killed



Again no US staff were killed and no US citizens scapegoated and frogmarched to jail over some stupid video.  

5. May 12, 2003. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 36 killed (9 Americans)

The purported reason for this attack was to ensure the US followed through demobilizing its troops it had stationed in Saudi Arabia after the first Iraq War, which, presumably, would make lefties happy:

The blasts came as the United States is pulling out most of the 5,000 troops it had based in Saudi Arabia, whose presence fueled anti-American sentiment. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said last week that most would be gone by the end of the summer.

6.  July 30, 2004 Tashkent 2 killed

No US citizens were killed in attack and it's not clear whether casualty number includes or excludes the suicide bomber himself:

The explosions, which occurred outside the buildings of both embassies in the Uzbek capital Tashkent, appeared to have been set off by suicide bombers, Reuters reported. Two Uzbeks were killed in the attacks

7. December 6, 2004 Saudi Arabia 9 killed

Again no US citizens were killed

no Americans had been killed and a "handful of other employees" had been taken to hospital. Security sources told Reuters the dead were Arabs and Asians.

Islamist militants today attacked the US consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with explosives and machine guns, killing four security guards and five staff

and no attack by the US President on the US Bill of Rights

8. March 2, 2006 Karachi 2 killed

 First attack where at least one US citizen was killed:

A U.S. diplomat and his driver were among at least four people killed in an apparent suicide attack outside the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, officials said.

Again, Bush correctly blamed terrorists, not US citizens, for the attack:

Bush said the bombings would not deter plans for his visit.

"Terrorists and killers are not going to prevent me from going to Pakistan," he said, adding the bombing shows the war on terrorism must continue

9. September 12, 2006 Syria 4 killed

I could only find reports of one fatality of a Syrian policeman and no US deaths:

Three Islamic militants suspected to have Al Qaeda ties were killed Tuesday after a failed attempt to attack the U.S. Embassy with automatic rifles, hand grenades and a van rigged with explosives. A Syrian security officer was also killed, but no Americans were hurt.

A Chinese diplomat also was hit in the face by shrapnel and slightly injured while standing on top of a garage at the Chinese Embassy China's Foreign Ministry said. The diplomat, political counselor Li Hongyu, was in stable condition at a hospital, the ministry said.

11. March 18, 2008  Yemen 2 killed


There is a dispute whether the US embassy or a girl school was actual target of sexist bigoted Islamists who don't want uppity girls learning how to read (which is Standard Operating Procedure for Islamofascists), again no US Ambassadors or citizens killed:

The American Embassy in Yemen was the target of a mortar attack Tuesday, the U.S. State Department said, contradicting a suggestion from the Yemeni government the attack targeted a school where 13 were injured.

"The target was someone inside the school," al-Hajjri said. "It had nothing to do with the U.S. Embassy. The U.S. Embassy was not a target."

12. July 9, 2008 Istanbul, Turkey 6 killed 

This stat is the MOST egregious from the left wingnuts. The New York Times headline is:

6 die in attack on U.S. Consulate in Istanbul

 However, if you read the article, first, they Bowdlerize "terrorist" as "unidentified gunmen" and then conflate the number in their title "6 die in attack" of both the terrorists (3) and their victims (3) which seems to be standard leftwing moral equivalency:

group of unidentified gunmen opened fire Wednesday on Turkish security guards outside the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul, the Turkish authorities said, and at least three police officers and three assailants were killed.

13. September 17, 2008. Sana'a, Yemen 16 killed (1 American)

The one American killed, oddly enough, is related to an Al Qaeda terrorist, who was in Yemen for an arranged marriage:

Susan El-Baneh is related to Yemeni-American Jaber El-Baneh, who is on the FBI's most-wanted list, accused of being the seventh member of the Lackawanna Six. The six were convicted or providing material support to al Qaeda.

After being told twice to refrain from involvement, Woods, Doherty and two others ignored orders and made their way to the main compound, where violence was raging. At this point, the building was on fire and shots were exchanged, however they took action.

Why didn't the Bush administration do something to secure the compounds after the first attacks? Why didn't he provide additional security?

Bush did allocate funding to improve embassy security:

The budget, sent to Congress on Feb. 4, does have some construction increases, such as for Dept. of Defense work and State Dept. embassies.

which Obama reallocated to his stimulus program which didn't stimulate anything except DNC coffers via SEIU money laundering scheme

Nope, again, Bush did NOT get in front of the UN and blame some stupid video for the attacks. Bush at least had the common decency to blame frigging terrorists for terrorist attacks versus blaming America and its Bill of Rights for provoking stupid terrorists. Putting this in terms liberals might understand, it is like the Jodie Foster film The Accused where the rape victim is blamed for enticing her attackers because she was dressed provocatively.
