Serendipitously, PBS reran their documentary on one of the few religious leaders embraced by the Democratic Party, Jim Jones. Mr. Jim "I am your God" Jones' followers thought that they were going to change the world.
Jim Jones Jr., Peoples Temple Member: I think in everything that I tell you about Jim Jones, there is going to be a paradox. Having this vision to change the world, but having this whole undercurrent of dysfunction that was underneath that vision.
Golly, a cult of personality centered around a message of wanting to change the world... where have I heard this before?
