Hot Air-ino

This post possibly violates Reagan's Eleventh Commandment

"Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican."

since hot air's political affiliation is indeterminate. Mr. hot air, even before he lost his pajama media revenue , and before the 2008 election was over, has consistently attacked (fellow?) GOP, and bent over backwards to exonerate leftists. I'm not certain if he's attempting to curry favor with his perceived new overlords , but a number of classically liberal bloggers are rather exasperated with his behavior:

I'm sick of Allahpundit [Adagio: Mr. Hot Air's old nick]. I'm sick of his name and I'm sick of his site (haven't been there in 4 months). Boring and predictable. Hot air indeed.

It just seems odd that I'm more often in agreement with PUMAs than I am with a purported Republican. There...cathartic release....

  1. I used to spend a lot of time at Hot Air. In the past few weeks I have only been there a couple of times. There was a desisive moment for me. I was reading a long thread full of disparaging comments about Ann Coulter. And I just thought to myself that no self respecting conservative would spend much time attacking Coulter. Her contributions to the cause so out weigh any negatives she has. And I feel sure most if not all of her attackers have never even read her. And they love to attack Palin over there: we really can't afford to waste our energy attacking another conservative.
I think few conservatives go to HA. Most of them are more like unliberals than anything I can put a name to.
But they must be commercially viable since they have lots of traffic. I was often bothered by how they (mostly Allah) generated their traffic. There was continual introduction of hot button issues that added little to anyone's understanding. They just know that abortion, evolution, the existence of God and attacks on Coulter and Palin will cause hundreds of comments and generate traffic.
Also, I didn't know if I could stand another commentor who gave a slew of angry arguments that had been preceded by a bold statement that they were not going to dignify the article or video by reading or viewing it. I spend a lot of time at a lot of other sites and I haven't run into that level of stupidity elsewhere.
But don't get me started or I'll end up asking for proof that Allah is actually a Rupublican rather than a Mark VIII Series Two hit generating Replicant. And I wouldn't want to say that.

  2. Ace of Spades also receives some flack for engaging in circular firing squads. However (& perhaps I'm biased because I'm former military) I get the impression that AoS's verbal excesses is more good natured ribbing, locker room talk. I still get the impression everyone is still on the same team & they just want to make certain their fellow teammates toe the line.

Conversely, Hot Air just seems to engage in snide, vicious, desctructive diatribes. Perhaps he's trying to morph into a male Arianna Huffington.

  3. You're right about Ace. He has good values. But he's a little rough around the edges though some of that feels like a consciously assumed role. He pulls it off well.
