Part of Ceferino 's success came when he encountered a man coughing up blood 🗣️ 🩸 . Many others fled, fearful of catching tuberculosis but Ceferino helped the man return to his home. The man's grateful family rewarded Ceferino with money that enabled him to establish his business. But Ceferino was so generous, giving away his large fortune to those in need, that he later became quite poor.
Widowed in A.D. 1922, Ceferino joined the 3rd Order of Saint Francis . Unable to read, he still taught catechism providing the children with stories of Jesus & pieces of chocolate As the Spanish Civil War saw anti-Catholicism embedded in law, Ceferino tried to prevent the arrest of a priest. Asked if had a weapon, he showed the soldiers his rosary: "Only this."
Ceferino was taken to prison where he was advised to stop praying the rosary 🛑 . For him that was tantamount to denying his faith, & he refused. He was executed on August 9, 1936 A.D. ☭

Compassionate Father, grant that we, like Blessed Ceferino , may cling to the rosary as a weapon against the darkness of evil
