Casimir's father was king of Poland , his mother an Austrian princess . From the age of 9, he was educated by the learned and holy priest, diplomat, and soldier Jan DΕugosz , Poland's first historian.

At the age of 14, Casimir was sent to lead an army against the king of Hungary π€΄ ππΊ When the enterprise began to look fruitless, Casimir withdrew his army. At the same time, a letter from the pope arrived, asking the Poles and Hungarians to seek peace. Nevertheless, Casimir's father, upset by his son's refusal to go to war, imprisoned him in a castle ⛓️ π° for 3 months.
