The brothers translated the liturgy & Scripture for the people, to great public effect. But they remained in conflict with the Germans, whose bishop ♝ refused to ordain Slavonic-speaking priests. Cyril & Methodius traveled to Rome where the pope approved the Slavonic liturgy. But Cyril died there weeks after receiving his monastic habit & religious name. "Do not," he charged Methodius, "give up your work of teaching."
