Not Every International Disagreement will Lead to a Trade War #TDS

Guess Alt Left just wants the USA to import substandard Japanese steel that the Japanese government admits didn't pass inspection

From McLain, Sean. “Justice Department Gets Involved in Kobe Steel Metal Scandal.” The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones & Company, 17 Oct. 2017, www.wsj.com/articles/justice-department-gets-involved-in-kobe-steel-metal-scandal-1508225892.

From  4/29/2018 NHK  report

Reporter: Earlier this month, an independent panel found suspect products were delivered to nearly 700 companies around the world.  Products included aircraft and vehicle parts.   Kobe Steel chairman and president Hiroya Kawasaki  resigned following the report's release.  The US Justice Department has also launched a separate investigation and consumers are preparing to file lawsuits.

Ugly troll babies

Perry Stone is, on the one hand, trying to be motivational by telling his audience that somebody on planet earth will love them no matter how hideously ugly they are. However, if you're hideously ugly you'll presumably only attract other hideously ugly people like "The New Yorker" projecting cartoon monsters.

Perry Stone:  Don't despise how God made you or how you look. Can I tell everybody out there, and I've gone off my message, but this is the Lord, that no matter how you look  there's somebody who love you like you are.

Audience: Amen! [claps]

Stone: That's the truth! All you have to do is find them.  Come to a couple Perry Stone meetings, those big conferences. You'll find somebody! I don;t know who'll it will be, but you'll find somebody.

Audience laughs

Stone:   OK...and...when you have certain things, like I have the autism, everybody that has this autism is a genius in one area.  Like my boys is computers. My boy can pick up a computer and just in no time bam bam bam [snaps fingers]

Psychedelic Jonathan Winters' Pictures

Jonathan Winters: [discussing the art studio located in his basement]: So when you do come out of your basement, it's a little bit of a treat.

Carson: It's like the papers have been signed and you're out!

Winters: So, you're kind of an out patient, you know? Come and go as you please. But it's a great little place for me to work.  You had Dong Kingman on, an old friend of mine.

✂️---------------------------------------

Artist: Dong Kingman
Year: 1976

✂️---------------------------------------

Carson: One of the fines water colorist in the world.

Winters: He's a great guy. Wonderful sense of humor.

Carson: This is for you

Winters: I'm working in inks.  These are ink pens and, boy, they really give you bright colors.  That's an unusual title. It's called, "Whale."  [audience laughs]. "Whale with Teeth".

Carson: A very multi colored whale, also?

Winters: I have a lot of influence by the Indians, Mexicans, Aztecs, South Americans  do a  lot of them. You know, bright colors with cloth, and uh, with their artwork. This is called uh, this is called uh, "Bird with a Split Personality."  [audience laughs].

Carson: Seems logical

Winters: Here's a religious bird standing on a religious turtle.[audience laughs and claps]

here!!!

Winters: Here's a man who hasn't got it all together.  [ audience laughs] He's dressed up for something that just isn't going to come off.

Winters: This is called "A Kitty Who isn't Paying Attention" [audience laughs]

Winters: I have two more, this is pencil, this is called "Hollywood Pool Man" [audience laughs]

Carson: There are fish

Winters: There are fish all throughout his body there. He's kind of far out and strange little face.

Carson: You're selling fairly well, aren't you? at your art show...

Winters: Fairly well....This is called "An American Easter."  Peoples say. [using a high pitched mocking voice] "I don't understand. Where's the bunny and the eggs and things?" [audience laughs]  But, uh, there's a lot of things going on in there.  That's the great thing about surrealism is that you see what you want to see.

Carson: Were you influenced by [Salvador] Dali?

Winters: I have always been a great admirer of Dali.

Carson: Most people forget that he's a fine technician when he draws uh realism [I think Carson means impressionism] uh a seascape or something, it's absolutely startling.

✂️---------------------------------------

e.g. The Tartan 'El Son' (1919)

✂️---------------------------------------

Winters: He's a great, great painter.  Paul Klee is another guy that I've always enjoyed.  And I have great respect for René Magritte, who is a Belgian painter, a surrealist, great humor, great painter.

Carson: What do you think  of the price of art has become absolutely fantastic. You know, like the Vermeer that was just returned to Ireland [sic - actually it was stolen from England probably by someone from the Irish Republican Army] for $4.5 million for one painting.

✂️---------------------------------------

Carson is referring to this story: Janson, Jonathan. “Vermeer Thefts: 1974 - The Guitar Player.” The Golden Age of Dutch Art, www.essentialvermeer.com/fakes_thefts_school_of_delft_lost_sp/vermeer_theft_02.html#.WvzGFa6nGUk.

"On Saturday night February 23, 1974, Vermeer's Guitar Player was stolen from Kenwood House, in Hampstead, London."

The Guitar Player

Oil on canvas

✂️---------------------------------------

Carson: I find it hard to put that kind of a value on something.

Winters: I'd feel a little scared to own something like that.

Carson: Imagine having a $4 million painting on a wall?

Winters: I think that the thing to do would be to build a concrete room, you know, blocks about this thick [holds arms out about a yard]

Winters: And uh just put the painting up on that and visit once a month, you know, under heavy guard and just sit there, with a flashlight and look at it, you know, and then, "OK, boys, let's go upstairs." When you get up around that kind of money, boy, that's a lot of money.

✂️---------------------------------------

Just to round things out, another seascape, this time from Paul Klee, perhaps hunting for a multicolor whale:

USA Embassy in Jerusalem

Pastor : Then the people who live here now have to defend that they even have a right to be here.  So for the greatest nation in the history of the world, the United State of America, to take a move to say, "We're going to respect the wishes  of the people who belong there, in the land, and honor their choice of their capital."  Every sovereign nation has the right to choice where their capital is.  The Jewish people choose Jerusalem.  Why? Because David built Jerusalem.

Pastor: And so they said lets...so when the United States says, "Let's move our embassy there as a sign that we believe you belong there," that's a huge endorsement.  You know, Matt, just quickly, one more thing that really touches  me is a few years ago I was here on a tour with some friends and I met like the real Indiana Jones archaeologist of Israel known by every Israeli here, a national hero.   And he was conducting a dig there on Zion and they've since uncovered David's palace etc. So I said to him...he took me in, it [a museum?] wasn't even open yet...and I said, "This is amazing! You have more archaeology going on in this country than anywhere I've ever seen!" And he said to me, "Pastor Mike, with all due respect,  we're not doing this for tourists to have new things to look at.  We're doing this to prove that we were here a long time ago."

Crouch: Wow, wow.

Pastor: That's why this is a great celebration day.

Alan Dershowitz: Well, it was wonderful to see Jews and Christians and others celebrating the right decision.  America leads the way.  I hope the rest of the world will follow.    This is a good first step towards peace, peace with justice, peace with strength through Israel...so it's a wonderful day!

Matt Crouch: Your personal thoughts.  Were you for this and supported it?

Dershowitz: I was very much for it.  I very much supported it.  And I became very enthusiastic to have it done now after the [UN] Security Council resolution of December 2016 when the Security Council ruled that the Jewish Quarter and the Western Wall [the retaining wall for the base of the Jewish Temple] were illegally occupied.  It was very important at that point for the United States and the new [ Trump ] administration to rebuke that Security Council resolution and recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital is a very good way to do it.

Matt Crouch: Your thoughts after this many years and what we got to experience together today.

Lieberman: Well, it was a thrill.  I must say I'm personally grateful to Ambassador Friedman for remembering that I was active in supporting the Jerusalem Embassy Relocation Act back in 1995. It was broadly bipartisan.  A lot of people supported it for the reason that was said today - it's the truth

✂️---------------------------------------

Saying support for USA moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was "broadly bipartisan" is something of an understatement S. 1322 (104th): Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 passed 86% Yea vs 9% Nay.

✂️---------------------------------------

Lieberman: How do we say to one of our best allies in the world is Israel, "We're not going to do for you what we do everywhere else in the world - put our embassy in your capital." Members of Congress did it but for various reasons that were not ever convincing to me presidents since then, 23 years since the law was adopted!, have found an excuse for not implementing it.  So.....thank you, President Trump and I'm speaking as a Democrat. Independent minded, but you've got to speak the truth.  President Trump had the courage, and really, in the way, the confidence to do what was right.

Matt Crouch:  What do you think ...can you help me understand why the other presidents wouldn't do it? What was the rationale? What would they be standing here saying?

Lieberman; Well, this all started with President Clinton. You know, he was and is a friend of mine, but the idea was somehow actually moving our embassy   to Jerusalem and recognizing the truth that Jerusalem is Israel's capital would hurt the peace process.  That was nonsense! First off, we do it everywhere else in the world.  Secondly, the US government has a piece of land that is here temporarily for our embassy in Jerusalem it's on land that's been Israeli since 1948. So, what I'm saying is, if there were negotiations   that relate to the boundaries of the city of Jerusalem, it's not going to relate to the land that the embassy of the US would be on so it was always a false issue.  It just took a president who said "I'm ready to take the consequences. I'm going to do what's right."  Maybe it's the reason that somebody who is unconventional without the, you might say...he came to office without any accumulated baggage.

Crouch: I like that word, "unconventional"! That's a proper way to say it! Let's show off our hats

Crouch: We were together at a historic event.

Susan Sarandon has always been an anti American Lefty Loon

Here's the entire May 8, 1974 Johnny Carson Show where he gave anti Nixon writer Jack Anderson a solid half hour to slag off Nixon and spread rumor and innuendo:

Carson then advertised Sarandon as a pro Nixon guest who was allegedly invited to balance out Anderson, so I can only presume Sarandon's publicist completely misrepresented her political point of view to Carson's producers.

Johnny Carson: Now to take the [Nixon] administration side [laughs] That's not very fair.  She's a lovely young actress.  She's been with us before. She's played the daughter in the movie, "Joe" and Young Zelda in television's "The Last of the Belles" Will you welcome, Susan Sarandon.

[ audience claps]

Carson:  I didn't mean to imply that you were politically going to get involved in any of this at all although you may have some views on what's happening.

Sarandon: I wrote him a letter.

Carson: You wrote who a letter?

Sarandon: Mr. Nixon.

✂️---------------------------------------

Notice how Sarandon did not use the honorific President Nixon.  Leftists become very irate when Republicans don't use honorific titles for Democrat public servants, specifically Clooney @2:20 in linked video upset when his messiah not shown proper reverence :

✂️---------------------------------------

Carson: You really sit down and write letters?

Sarandon: You have to because .... I mean, I'm sure he doesn't read them.  But, uh, someone reads them.  I send him telegrams.  I write him more than my relatives [laughs].

Carson: May I ask you what you write?

Sarandon: I just told him I didn't believe him any more, although I never did, I thought that it would sound better if he thought that I had [well, if Nixon watched Carson's show, he then knew that Sarandon was a total fraud and a liar].

Carson: I thought you were going to balance this out.

Sarandon: And then I said that I uhm that impeachment wasn't uh ...that is was a safety structure in the Constitution and certainly not a threat to the democracy [the USA is a republic and not a democracy, tho].  And that, uh, even if he was innocent [and all citizens are innocent until proven guilty in English common law societies] and had an uncanny amount of bad luck, surrounding himself with all these dishonest men, he should put his ego aside for the good of the country and resign.

Carson:  Well, that certainly balances out Jack's uh...I get a strong feeling I'm going to get a call from Ron Ziegler [ Nixon's Press Secretary] right after this show is over.  I don't know why.

Carson: What have you been doing lately? Talk about what's happening with you.

Sarandon: Oh, I've been working, and I've been robbed, and my house has been hit by lightning, and my cat died.

Carson: You want to take those one at a time?  We thought the country was in trouble. You got ripped off?

Sarandon: Yes, I was staying at a hotel here I came out to do some...

Carson: No, don't mention the hotel

Sarandon: No, I won't mention the name.  But they uh during the night someone came into my very room and stole a large satchel that had everything I need to live on. I was planning to move the next day into an apartment.

Carson: You were in the same room when he came in?

Sarandon: Yes, it was at the foot of my bed.  Much to my surprise in the morning when I woke up it was gone - all of my cash, my travelers checks,  my tarot cards, my kazoo, my pen knife.  Everything I need.

Carson: Your tarot cards?

I guess Susan Sarandon and her psychic tarot cards that couldn't predict that she'd get robbed were used to predict the outcome of the 2016 POTUS election

Electric Cars = #GreenEnergyBoondoggle

From NHK Friday May 11, 2018 report:

Japanese electronics maker, Panasonic, has posted strong earnings for the [fiscal] year that ended in March and executives are forecasting even better times ahead.  Sales in FY2017 rose 8.7% from a year earlier to make about $73 billion.

And net profit jumped almost 60% .  It was the first time in four years that the firm has logged increases in both revenue and profit.  Executives point to rising demand for its car batteries and other vehicle related products.  They're also predicting a good Fiscal2018

Sales are expected to grow 4% and net profit 5.9%.  The company is counting on battery shipments to US electric vehicle maker Tesla and other automakers to push revenues higher.  Sales of electric motors are also expected to increase.

Richard Grenell awesome start as US Ambassador to Germany

Reporter: A big concern here.  When those sanctions that are being imposed by the US will actually harm Germany and if you will it has been described here with one word, what German politicians want regarding the second aspect is "clarity". Clarity when German businesses will be effected.

Anchor: So lets talk a little bit more about those German businesses that are operating in Iran because we already have a bit of an inkling as to how the US might react to that business.  In fact the new US ambassador to Germany, just being installed this week  tweeted this shortly after the announcement and I'd like to show it to our viewers. He [Richard Grenell] wrote the following:

"As @realDonaldTrump said, US sanctions will target critical sectors of Iran’s economy. German companies doing business in Iran should wind down operations immediately.

Anchor: This is a threat here, isn't it, Thomas? I mean  these German companies are likely going to face sanctions.

Reporter:  Well, obviously, that message by Mr. Grenell, the new US Ambassador to Germany, was not well received.  Here it has been criticized.  It has been seen as a rather harsh start to his work here in   Berlin. But again what German politicians, what German businessmen are interested in is trying to get some clarity [which seems to be code word for allowing European businesses to have a free hand in doing business with the "Death to America" chanting Iranians without worrying about losing their access to USA markets]. Here in Germany what implication, what concrete implications the decision by Donald Trump will have on them. That is something that will be hammered out in the next few days, in the next few weeks.
